In 1987, after putting himself through a gemologist course at GIA, Boaz came to the United States to break into the most advanced jewelry and diamond market in the world. He started out as a diamond dealer, traveling the country and knocking on retailers' doors. He then partnered with a wholesaler to start a new business, where he learned how the concept of "middleman markups" was applied.
The deeper Boaz went into the industry workings, the more he understood how under-educated the consumer really was and how they were being charged for every little thing. There were no warranties and guarantees. This led him to his big "aha" moment - how he was going to put himself at the forefront of the industry and become number one!
In 1995, Boaz took his direct to consumer approach and opened a retail store in Charlotte, NC. He wanted to over-educate his consumers and give them direct access to diamond inventory that previously had only been available to retailers. He wanted those customers to shop around and see the difference not only in price but also information other retailers were not willing to share. The store was a huge success and Boaz was eager to expand, however his partners were not ready to make the next move, so Boaz ventured out on his own.
This bold move brought him to Nashville, where Genesis Diamonds was born. He and his brother-in-law, Danny Lemkin, spent the next couple of years laying the foundation for the Diamond Jewelry store that was going to shift the local industry forever.
